The annual CHRVA Award Presentations were
made at the General Membership Meeting which was held on Sunday, May 2,
1999, at the East County Community Center. Congratulations to all

Debbie has been the Women's BB/B Division Coordinator since the 1996-97
season. During that time, she performed her duties in an outstanding
manner, overcoming many problems related to the management of one of the
Region's largest divisions. She has continually demonstrated genuine
concern for the welfare of the teams under her control and has constantly
worked to ensure that each team is afforded the opportunity to compete
in a fair and just manner. We are happy to present Debbie Rifkin
a Certificate of Appreciation for her efforts. |

 |
Jean has been a source of much useful information during the rebirth
of the CHRVA Website. She developed a webpage to afford the Men's
BB Division Coordinator a more efficient means to disseminate tournament
information and organize events. She has demonstrated her willingness
to make significant contributions to the region by developing and maintaining
an online database of directions to all of the CHRVA tournament sites.
This addition to the CHRVA Website has assisted many players and teams
locate tournament sites and plan their travel schedule. Jean is most
deserving of the Certificate of Achievement Award. |

 |
Although Karen was a coordinator for one of the smaller divisions,
Women's AA, she has done an outstanding job. She actively promoted
the AA competition by going out of her way to contact and get teams from
out of region to participate in regional events. She added three
new tournament hosts to the Women's AA annual schedule, a first in the
region for many years. Her performance truly demonstrates the highest
degree of leadership and management abilities and make her truly worthy
of the Certificate of Achievement Award. |

Kevin

Kevin has served as the Men's B Division Coordinator since 1996 and
has performed his duties in an outstanding manner. Although this
division is one of the smallest, he was able to promote and fill numerous
tournaments, giving testament to his abilities and dedication to the task.
Kevin has been very careful to ensure that each team was afforded the opportunity
to compete in a fair and just manner. His efforts make him more than
worthy of the Certificate of Achievement Award. |

Joe is Club Director for the South Shore Juniors. The club has
been in operation for one year and has already formed three teams.
He is involved with running an outreach program, in Salisbury, that makes
it possible for younger children to become involved in volleyball.
In past years, Joe was involved with the Metro group and with the SMJ Juniors.
He is a certified Junior National Referee and a member of the CHRVA Board
of Directors. Joe's efforts are truly deserving of the Meritorious
Service Award. |

During the past season, Trash served as the Men's BB Division Coordinator.
She has continually demonstrated genuine concern for the teams in her division.
Her efforts to enhance team communication, improve overall efficiency,
and reduce the paperwork associated with event organization led to the
development of the Men's BB Webpage. Her willingness to cooperate
with fellow coordinators and CHRVA staff while continuing to investigate
better ways to perform the duties of a Division Coordinator is admirable.
She has done an outstanding job as Men's BB Coordinator and deserves to
receive the Meritorious Service Award. |

Dean has demonstrated an extremely high level of organizational ability.
He established the Northern Virginia Volleyball Club and has maintained
it as a smooth running operation through its growth to over 20 teams representing
many age groups and divisions. As a member of the CHRVA Board of
Directors, he draws upon both his past experience and his vision of the
future to help strengthen and improve our region. Dean's ability
to organize extends beyond his club's operation and his work on the Board.
He runs both a 60+ team and a 65+ team and has guided them into high place
finishes in several National Championships giving honor to the Chesapeake
Region. His membership on the CHRVA Board has had a positive effect
on its decision making process. Dean's contributions to all aspects
of volleyball in the Chesapeake Region make him worthy to receive the Meritorious
Service Award. |

Eugene is a respected member of the CHRVA Board of Directors.
As Chair of the Finance Committee, he is responsible for presenting a balanced
view of the Region's financial operations. As Chair of the Eligibility
Committee, he must review cases involving misconduct, team movement, requests
for transfer, and other circumstances that may affect player or team participation
in CHRVA. His position requires a great deal of patience, wisdom,
and compassion and he has executed his duties with fairness and diplomacy.
Eugene is overdue for recognition and is highly deserving of the Meritorious
Service Award. |

This award is being presented to Charles in appreciation of his many
contributions to our Region. He established and continues to maintain
the CHRVA
Officials' Website which has become a model for other Regions to emulate.
His work benefits all phases of the officiating program by simplifying
the jobs of all of the officiating chairs. As a member of the CHRVA
Board of Directors and Chair of the Junior Ethics Committee, Charles is
very active in both the Adult and Junior Programs. He has enhanced
communication and simplified operations within the Juniors' Program with
the development of the CHRVA
Juniors' Website. He is a worthy recipient of the Regional
Commissioner's Award. |

Hughes

 |
Presented to Anne for her long and faithful service spanning more than
two decades. During her many years of service, she has served as
a member of the CHRVA Board of Directors and has served in many Officer
and Staff positions within the Region. Since 1988, she has served
as the men's AA/A Division Coordinator. In 1991, Anne accepted
temporary duty as the Chair of the Tournament Scheduling Committee
while Ron Sommer fulfilled his military duties in the Desert Storm operation.
Anne deserves recognition as a recipient of the Regional Commissioner's
Award. |

Jeff

 |
Jeff is a member of the CHRVA Board of Directors and is Chair of the
Communications Committee. He is responsible for developing and improving
methods of communication within our Region.
Website: Jeff has been the driving force
behind the development of our Region
Website. Through his efforts, it has become a standard by which other
region websites are measured. He is continually finding ways to improve
the informational capabilities of the Website,
making it more useful to the general membership.
Handbook and Digs: Jeff is responsible for preparing
and publishing yearly updates to the Region Handbook, a task that customarily
requires many hours of midnight oil. He is also responsible for seeing
that the Chesapeake Digs newsletter contains accurate and informative information
directed towards the general membership. His tireless efforts make
him deserving of the Regional Commissioner's Award. |

Regional Leader in Volleyball Awards:

Cornelio deserves recognition for developing referee upgrade programs
that have made the Chesapeake Region the envy of all other regions.
His success is represented by an increase in the number and quality of
referees who have become Regional, Junior National and USA National certified.
'Corny' developed several manuals and other literature that have been distributed
throughout the USAV Regions. He has also worked behind the scenes
as a referee assignor for the National Championships at all levels.
Cornelio is truly deserving of the Regional Leader in Volleyball Award. |

Sue has a long history of important contributions to the Chesapeake
Region. As Scorekeeping Chair, she has been responsible for developing
quality Scorekeeper Upgrade Programs and for maintaining a high level of
competence among the scorekeepers who support CHRVA events. The success
of her upgrade program is evidenced by the development of scorekeepers
that include 19 National Indoor scorekeepers, 6 National Outdoor scorekeepers,
2 International Indoor scorekeepers, and 2 International Outdoor scorekeepers.
Her leadership within the Region has been further demonstrated by a very
successful term as President of the CHRVA Board of Directors. She
continues to be a member of the Board of Directors. Sue is a most
deserving recipient of the Regional Leader in Volleyball Award. |
