USA Volleyball Chesapeake Region
Year 2001 Candidates for the Board of Directors
If you are interested in becoming a CHRVA Board Member, please check out the Election Process.  Your nomination must be received by the Chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee by April 1, 2001 to be included on the Official Candidate Slate.  If, by the deadline, there are still more available seats than candidates, nominations will be accepted from the floor during the Annual General Membership Meeting.

The official slate of candidates was closed as of April 1, 2001.

Since there are eight (8) available seats on the Board and ten (10) names on the Official Candidate Slate, nominations will NOT be accepted from the floor during the Annual General Membership Meeting.

The following tables provide information about the individuals seeking election to the CHRVA Board of Directors for the year 2001.  Both tables specify whether or not the candidate is currently on the Board (Incumbent) and presents some personal comments as a means of introduction.  If available, a picture has also been posted.  Please plan on attending the Annual General Membership Meeting to vote your conscience.

The Official Candidate Slate is a table that identifies all candidates who have met the nomination requirements specified in the CHRVA Bylaws by the April 1, 2001 deadline.

I have been an active participant in the Chesapeake Region since the mid-1980's.  During that time, I have played in the Men's B, Men's BB, and Men's A Divisions and have served as the team representative for several seasons.

Since the late 1980's, I have been certified and active as a referee in good standing, working regularly as a non-playing referee and rating provisional referee candidates at fellowship and regular-season tournaments.  I am currently certified as a USA Volleyball Junior National Referee.

For the past two years, I have served as a Director and Vice President of CHRVA, with primary responsibility for the Regional Championships.  I have also managed CHRVA's email presence at CHRVA.org.

Professionallly, I am an electrical engineer with 21 years of experience.  I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University in 1983 and a Master of Science Degree in Communications Theory from the George Washington University in 1986.  I am employed by the United States Department of Defense.

I began my experience playing for women's teams back in the 1980s.  I spent 5 years playing at the women's level.  When I changed jobs and positions, I began a club experience for girls since I was no longer able to coach at the high school level.  I have been involved in the juniors program for 12 years serving in many capacities for the region.  I am very interested in assisting the region to attain its goals and objectives for both adults and youth as we progress into this next century.  I have coached at the high school, college, and club level and feel I have a wealth of experience and skills for the region.  I am looking forward to offering my leadership skills to the region.

I have played volleyball for a number of years and have been playing USAV for the past several years.  I have served as both a Team Representative and Coach of adults.  Being a Team Representative has led me into the referee arena over the past few seasons, and the past two years, I have focused on coaching a Women’s BB team.  I am interested in serving on the Board in part because I believe the Region should have our support, and in part because I thought I should put my actions where my mouth goes.  I have made suggestions to people in the past based on things I thought and on things I had talked about with other people in the Region so the next logical step is to be a spokesperson of sorts for those people that want their voice heard.

I am not affiliated with any team.  I’ve been involved with volleyball since 1993, when I met my wife and her family.  I started out as a recreation league player and decided that I wanted to officiate.  I started officiating with High School in the 1998-1999 school year with BBOWS.  I also became a USAV Provisional that same year.

In the 1999-2000 season, I decided I wanted to go as far as I could with USAV officiating and started my long climb up the ladder with the first rung being my advancement to the Regional rating with USAV.

In the 2000-2001 season, I started officiating NAGWS with BBOWS and with USAV.  I’ve already done two out-of-state Juniors tournaments this season with two more to go.

Whenever I do something, I like to do as much as possible.  Within reason of course, and thought that getting involved with the CHRVA as a BOD would be a nice step.

I have been involved with the Chesapeake Region for almost 20 years, playing at the Men's B, BB and A levels, and coaching both Men's and Women's teams at several levels.

I am also a certified Scorekeeper.

I have been a member of the CHRVA Board of Directors for several terms, and have been involved in many CHRVA areas of operation, including Finance, Eligibility, and Regional Champtionships.

I've also attended the USAV Open Championships for several years, and can understand how the USAV operates on a National level, and how the USAV relates to the individual Regions.

I would like to continue serving on the CHRVA Board of Directors, using the experiences I've gained to help guide the Region in advancing the sport of Volleyball.
