We are constantly
searching for ways to improve communication within the Chesapeake Region.
Some of the most recent website developments should be of particular interest
to many of the Digs readers. While we realize that some individuals do
not currently have Internet access, we must try to take advantage of the
cost and convenience benefits afforded by new technology. Given the current
state of the Internet explosion, it is difficult to believe that anyone
will be able to resist its attraction for much longer.
The CHRVA Website, Handbook, and Digs Newsletter
have always served as a resource for contact information. Names, addresses,
phone numbers, and more recently, email addresses are published to enable
the membership to contact CHRVA Officers, Directors, and Staff as needed.
We have now implemented a system of generic email addresses that will allow
the membership to contact CHRVA personnel in a more uniform manner. For
example, if you would like comment on this article, you could send
email to communications.chair@chrva.org.
The CHRVA President can be reached at president@chrva.org.
Furthermore, if you know the name of someone you need to contact, you can
generally reach him or her at firstname.lastname@chrva.org. For
example, you could contact Karol Shadle (our President) at karol.shadle@chrva.org.
At times, an individual’s email address will
change, making published information obsolete and misleading. Since the
new email addresses are aliases, they are independent of actual address
changes. The new addresses are already posted on the Website and will be
incorporated in this issue of the Digs and in the upcoming 1999/2000 Handbook
revision.
We have also created a number of email addresses
to simplify communication with specific groups within CHRVA. For example,
if you would like to send a message to all members of the Board of Directors,
you can
use the group alias board@chrva.org.
Very soon, perhaps by the time this issue of the Digs is in your hands,
you will be able to register your email address with one or more groups
such as members@chrva.org, scorekeepers@chrva.org,
or referees@chrva.org ensuring
that you will be on the distribution for any relevant group information.
The new email address lists can be found online
in the CHRVA Organization page. From the top of the CHRVA Main Page
(http://www.chrva.org/index.html),
click on the “Get In Touch” navigation link or scroll to the bottom
of the page to the “Get In Touch” section. Then, click on the Organization
link. The direct URL is
http://www.chrva.org/orgpage.html.
For your convenience the list is also included at the end of this article.
A Forms Archive has been created to
allow the membership to download CHRVA forms in Adobe PDF format. The free
Adobe Reader is required to view and print the forms from your system.
To get the free Adobe Reader, go to: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.
The Forms Archive can be found in “The CHRVA Reading Room”
located near the top of the CHRVA Main Page. The direct URL is http://www.chrva.org/Forms/forms_archive.html.
The desire to promote the free exchange of
ideas and opinions within the region was the driving force behind the development
of the CHRVA Bulletin Boards, located at http:/www.chrva.org/bbs.html.
Currently, there are three (3) active topics, Refereeing, Scorekeeping,
and Tournaments. Other topics such as “RULES OF PLAY” and “RUNNING
CHRVA” will be added very soon. If there is a particular topic that you
would like to see on the bulletin board page, please let me know. It will
take time for the Bulletin Boards to build up a significant base of contributors
from among the membership, but I encourage everyone to participate. The
CHRVA Board of Directors will be better able to serve the Region if the
membership is willing to express opinions, suggest improvements, and take
some responsibility for the constant examination of the status quo.
Other new features of the CHRVA Website include:
Out-of-Region Tournament Schedules (http://www.chrva.org/exchange_regions.html)
Provides quick access for those wishing to compete against teams in
neighboring regions.
CHRVA Fee Schedule (http://www.chrva.org/Preseason/1999_00/fees.html)
Provides the latest fees for individual and team registration and for
clinics.
Adult Division Coordinator Pages (http://www.chrva.org/divinfo.html)
These represent great new resources for CHRVA teams. Separate pages
allow each Coordinator to provide the latest tournament information to
the teams in his or her division. Expanded use of these pages will result
in significant cost savings to the region.
