To date Charles
Ezigbo and I have presented three IMPACT Clinics to a total of over 60
coaches this season. IMPACT, an acronym for Improved Mastery and
Professional Application of Coaching Theory, is USA Volleyball’s entry
level program for coaches. It is a Region requirement that all coaches
at the JOV level be at a minimum IMPACT certified. Coaches receive approximately
5 – 6 hours of instruction along with a hefty IMPACT Manual. The IMPACT
Manual provides a comprehensive resource for volleyball coaches. Parents
who are interested in obtaining a copy of this manual should contact me.
The cost is $7.00.
At the CAP Clinic that I helped teach in Tampa
in early January, I had the opportunity to talk with Diana Cole from USA
Volleyball about IMPACT Plus. The Plus part adds about 8 hours of in gym
instruction to IMPACT and covers the teaching of all of the basic volleyball
skills—attacking, setting, passing, serving, etc.
There have also been changes made to the CAP
curriculum. The American Sport Effectiveness Program (ASEP) portion has
been removed from Level I. However, to become Level I accredited, you still
have to complete ASEP or some other equivalent. Completing IMPACT actually
meets that requirement. The CAP Program has a new resource book that is
currently being used for both Level I and Level II. A new Level II book
is in the works. To keep up to date on when and where CAP Courses will
be held, go to the Education section of www.usavolleyball.org. |
