Junior Girls Regional Championships:  Frequently Asked Questions
Arlene Geppi, Junior Girls Competition Chair
The Girls Junior Regional Championships are just around the corner, and there are always many questions about who is eligible to play and how to apply.

Who can participate in Junior Regionals?

All teams in the Girls Junior program who are in good standing are eligible to compete (cannot be under any disciplinary penalty imposed by the Region or USAV).  Teams must be CHRVA registered and must have participated in two sanctioned regular season Region tournaments.  Only the first place finisher team in each open division can qualify for Junior Nationals.
How many teams are there in the junior girls program?
At this writing, there are approximately 196 junior teams in the region.  There are two divisions within each age group, the Open and Club Championship. The age groups are: 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18.  The Open division (top 10 teams) in each age group is ranked by the game results from each tournament in the Region.  The Club division is ranked thereafter.  We have Gold, Silver, Bronze brackets, etc in each Club division of 10 teams.  The seeding within in each age division is done according to the rankings.
When are the Regional Championships held?
They have always been held in the month of April and May depending on the availability of facilities, referees, volunteers, National Qualifiers, holidays, and entry deadlines for Junior Nationals.  The regular season begins in the middle of January and concludes the last weekend in May.  The National tournament is held the last week in June.
Who is in charge of organizing and running the Regional Championships?
The Vice-President is responsible for their total organization, both Juniors and Adults, with input from various program coordinators.
Where can we get the application forms?
Teams can register online by going to www.chrvajuniors.com and clicking on “Tournaments.”  The Tournament Invitation application must be completely filled out, and the check must be in the hands of the coordinator by the closing date.  Teams can also print and mail this same application form instead of sending it electronically.  Send the application form to the appropriate Junior coordinator with a check by the closing date.  The preferred method for applying to the Regional Championships, however, is by online registration.

When will the applications be posted online?

Applications are currently posted on the junior website.  The final schedule is published in this issue of the DIGS and on our website.
Will I be guaranteed entry into the Regional Championships?
No team is guaranteed entry.  You must have a completed application in the hands of the coordinator before being accepted into the tournament.  There will be times when we cannot except all teams due to the availability of space in certain facilities.
