Welcome to the Chesapeake
Region Scorekeeping Family. Check the
list in the Digs or on the Officials Webpage (http://www.vball-life.org/officials/index.cfm)
to see if your name is there. If you
think you should be and you are not, notify me as soon as possible at scorekeeper.chair@chrva.org. If your name has a 2004 beside it, look for
information in September 2004 on how to maintain your certification. It is much easier to maintain than to
redo. If you are not a currently
certified scorekeeper, and you keep score at a sanctioned tournament, you run
the risk of you and your team being penalized.
In addition to the full certification clinics held in the
fall, there were eight “Junior” certification clinics held during December and
January. After processing 1200 folks
last year, I thought I was prepared.
Never fear, there continues to be growth, and this year we had a little
over 1300 attendees. The new process of
junior certification requires the clinic attendees to get their blue evaluation
forms signed by a provisional or above scorekeeper or provisional or above
referee. After they have received
evaluations of their scoresheets on two different matches and sent the blue
form to me, I will verify and mail a card to the Junior scorekeeper. This will certify the Junior scorekeeper is
qualified to keep score at junior only tournaments. If you were certified from last year, your
name is on the list posted on the website (www.chrvajuniors.com). You must obtain a blue evaluation form from
me and get two scoresheet evaluations to stay current.
The list in this Digs DOES NOT include “Junior
Only Certifications.”
THANKS! THANKS! THANKS!
It would not be possible to do my job without a lot of
help. Special thank you to Jan Bowser
and Amy Ritter for being the Scorekeeping Recert Assistants. Thanks to Arlene Geppi for securing all the
sites for the Junior Scorekeeper Clinics.
Thanks to Kelli Auletta and Julie Briggs for making the Fellowship and
Rating tournaments happen. Thanks to my
clinicians for the junior scorekeeping clinics:
Phyllis Coleman, Debbie Reed, Tom Sullivan, and Diana Zabetakis. When you are ready to join this fantastic
crew of people, call me, email me, write me, or corner me when you see me, and
I will be glad to utilize your services as soon as I can.
THE REGIONALS ARE COMING! THE
REGIONALS ARE COMING!
Are you ready to volunteer and show off your scorekeeping
expertise? If you are, I am interested
in hearing from you. I would love to
have scorekeeper volunteers keeping score at a Regional Championship that they
are not playing in. This is your
opportunity to show how interested you might be in moving to the next level, or
how much you just enjoy scorekeeping. It
might also give you a chance to see a level of play different from the level
you currently play. I highly recommend
it. Contact me at dixie.collins@chrva.org for further
information.
REMINDERS ABOUT THE SCORESHEET
The scoresheets are being reviewed, and these are a few
things that have come to my attention:
- Circle
the final score of both teams in the service round box section. Circles in the running score section
mean there has been a penalty point earned. This rarely happens, especially on the
final point.
- If the
25th point is earned on a side out, record point 25 in the next
server’s service round box without the little check mark on the
teeny number.
- Hourglasses
are made in pen. Each column with
unused points gets its own hourglass.
- Start
and end times are in pen. Make sure
to record.
- When
recording the score at the time of substitution, record multiple
substitutions down the column first, and then use the second column when
you get to the 5th sub in a position.
- At the
end of the match, pay attention to detail, check, check, and re-check, to
make sure you haven’t forgotten anything especially the winning and losing
teams scores.
All tournament hosts should have acquired a current set of
scoresheets, lineup sheets, and libero tracking sheets from the CHRVA website
forms archive http://www.chrva.org/Forms/forms_archive.html. I am still seeing some really old sheets come
through. Please do your part to update
the materials. Thanks.
Enjoy the remainder of the season and keep up the good
scorekeeping.
