With e-mail access becoming widespread, I
now receive up to 40 messages every day. It reminds me of my days as a
quarterback for the Missouri Tigers – except that now I hand off questions
instead of footballs – giving them to the person most suited to answering
them.
I continue stressing the need for timely replies
to any questions the leadership receives from CHRVA members. I know how
frustrating it can be when someone calls with a question and receives either
a late reply or no reply. Of course, it is equally frustrating to the leadership
to call a member and not receive a reply.
The Regional Championships are just around
the corner and we will be asking for assistance from referees, scorekeepers,
court managers, and “go fors.” If you have time to assist, please contact
Karol Shadle by telephone (703-461-3086), by e-mail (Karolvball@aol.com),
or send a letter to
51 South French Street,
Alexandria, VA 22304.
Corny Galdones has been doing a super job with
the Referee Advancement Program (RAP), helping people achieve advanced
referee ratings. Eight Provisional referees were advanced to Regional status
in a rating tournament held at the University of Maryland. Both Corny and
Referee Chair Larry Liden have been working overtime to ensure that Chesapeake
Region has the top referees in USAV.
Sue Wainio-Oato did a superlative job conducting
scorekeeper clinics, but has great concerns about recertification tests
not being returned to Dixie Collins on time. If you haven’t returned yours,
get a move on or try taking the candidates clinic next year. Remember,
if you are a referee, the lack of scorekeeper certification will cancel
your certification as a referee.
Elections for the Board of Directors are coming
up. These are the people who make decisions on every program in the
Region. Whether you are satisfied or dissatisfied, you should attend the
General Membership meeting and make your feelings known. If you have suggestions,
jot down your ideas and send them to the Secretary, JoBeth Killough.
I am here to serve you and protect your interests
in the Region. When I’m not out of town refereeing, I check my e-mail several
times a day. I do my utmost to answer your questions, but if I don’t know
the answer, I’ll let you know that I am searching for the information.
Hope your season is going well. |
