Nominations for Board Of Directors
Our Region is
organized such that the hands-on operations of the Region, like registering
members or coordinating tournaments, are carried out by CHRVA staff members,
while more general functions, like setting policy and rule making are handled
by the Board of Directors. Although the work done by the Board may not
be as conspicuous as that done by the staff, it is just as important to
the long-term operation and vitality of the Region.
The job of being a Director is not all that
difficult or demanding: the Board has four regular meetings per season,
usually on weeknights, and one meeting immediately after the annual meeting.
The job skills required are common sense and a willingness and ability
to work productively in a group of fifteen. Additionally, it should
not be overlooked that Directors make the big bucks—five dollars per meeting
attended.
New Directors are periodically sought to replace
those who have made their contribution to the Region and have decided to
move on and make room for other folks to volunteer their help. As Chair
of the Nominations and Elections Committee, it’s my job to do the seeking,
which is, of course, the purpose of this article.
Region Bylaws provide for fifteen Board members,
with seven or eight Directors elected each year, in alternate years. The
Bylaws also provide some specifics about the manner in which Directors
are nominated and elected.
Elections are held at the Region’s annual
meeting, which, for this season, will be on Sunday May 2, 1999 at 3:00
p.m., (see General Membership Meeting
notice). Nominations for the Board must be in writing and must
be received by me by April 1, 1999. Nominations must include the
name, address, and team affiliation (if any) of the nominee; a brief statement
of the personal (including occupational) background and the volleyball-related
background of the nominee; a statement of consent to be nominated, signed
by the nominee; and the name, address, and phone number of the person making
the nomination. Individuals may nominate themselves.
If you know of someone who is levelheaded,
and whom you think would make a good addition to the Board (or if you fit
that description, yourself), please send me a nomination, or contact me
to discuss any questions you might have. Please be sure to secure the permission
of the person you are nominating before you submit a nomination. Again,
I must receive all nominations by April 1, 1999; nominations should
be sent to:
