Many thanks to
everyone who helped to get this season’s scorekeepers certified and re-certified.
In particular, Dixie Collins, Jeanette Collins, Kelli Auletta and Guy Wainio-Oato.
I must apologize for the tough time we had getting things finished this
year. There were a number of challenges due to the scoresheet changes,
new tests, a temperamental, aging database program and an unusually hectic
business travel schedule. Thank you all for your patience. If you
have finished your certification or recertification requirements, you have
received confirmation in the mail - usually your corrected test and a certification
card. If you have not heard anything, and/ or do not have WRITTEN confirmation
of your certification, don’t assume that you are certified - contact me
(or Dixie Collins for re-certs) and be sure we have received your test,
ratings, etc. Dixie can be reached at 703-323-5283. There were a number
of people who were under the mistaken impression that they were still certified
as scorekeepers, even though they had actually “ expired” a year or so
ago. Check your scorekeeper’s card. If you can't find it, or don’t
have one with an expiration date of 1999 or later, you should contact me
to verify your status. Remember that if you are “expired” you must start
over again as a candidate next year.
Azam Smith is heading up the scoresheet review
process this season. The purpose of this is to offer help to those who
may need reminders on proper procedures, and to verify the certification
of the scorekeepers. The region’s penalties for using uncertified people
are quite stiff. They are listed in the region handbook. Be forewarned!!
Attention Tournament Directors
Please remember to send all of the scoresheets
from your regular season tournament as soon as possible after the day of
play. Send scoresheets to the appropriate individuals:
Women’s Division
Men's Division
In addition, please send a copy to Jeff Maynard
(usavchr@www.chrva.org) for
the CHRVA website. Additional contact information for Jeff can be
found at the Board of Directors link in the Who's
Who section of the Online Digs main page.
Volunteers Wanted to Keep Score at Regionals
Any scorekeepers interested in volunteering
their time as a scorekeeper at Regionals, please contact me. This is a
VERY good thing to do if you are interested in being considered for National
Scorekeeper at some point in the future. I need to hear from all volunteers
by March 21st in order to get the master schedule made up. We had a number
of great volunteers at Regionals last year, and we received favorable comments
from players and officials who participated on those courts.
Pending Changes
We have received a survey from our Zonal Representative
about the pending change to Rally Point Scoring. YIKES!! The current thinking
is that we will probably be going to 25-point all rally games. This will
require a review of the current system of keeping score, and may require
a change to a totally different score sheet! If this happens, we are in
for an intensive re-training effort that will require lots of help and
cooperation from everyone. Stay tuned!
Requirements for Those Wanting to Move Up
If you are interested in becoming a National
Scorekeeper, please note the list of requirements for consideration as
a candidate. Regional Scorekeepers need to have participated in at least
two of these areas for at least two seasons before being considered for
National Scorekeeper candidacy:
-
Assist with certification /testing process
-
Help with candidate registration at fall clinics
-
Teach recertification clinics
-
Assist at new scorekeeper clinics
-
Assist the Fellowship Committee with scheduling candidates for ratings
-
Rate candidates at Fellowships
-
Serve on Scoresheet Review Committee
-
Volunteer to keep score at Regionals
As you can see, there is plenty to do, whether
one is aspiring to be a National Scorekeeper or not! We need volunteers!
We need people to help lighten the workload on each of us. Please contact
me via email, fax, mail or phone to lend a hand. And thanks again to those
who have helped in the past.
Finally - always remember to notify me if
your address changes, so your recertification information finds you in
the fall! |
