and you are interested, do not worry. Next year, you can attend the Open
Championships and earn your National rating there. Please contact me as
soon as possible so we can be sure to consider everyone who is interested!
The Scorekeeper List
I know it has been a while since we have been
able to generate a list of certified scorekeepers and their expiration
dates. I still do not know for sure that it can be done automatically;
BUT, by the time you get this there SHOULD BE a list posted on the
Officials webpage—www.vball-life.org/officials.
This will be THE definitive list of ALL Provisional, Regional, and
National Scorekeepers in the Chesapeake Region. Please check to see if
your name and certification information is correct. If it is NOT correct,
or not there, and you think it should be, you need to notify me via email
by NO LATER THAN AUGUST 15, 2001. I recognize that there may be
issues given the problems we experienced in recent years with ratings and
recertification information. I have files that will help me unravel individual
mysteries, and I may be able to help some of you avoid starting all over
again as candidates. Once the appeals period is over, and I turn the files
over to the new Scorekeeper Chair, NO exceptions will be made.
Everyone who was certified or re-certified in the 2000-2001 season
DID receive a certification card. KEEP THIS CARD! It is your proof of certification!
National News
Scorekeepers interested in joining the ranks
of the National Scorekeepers should make their intentions known to the
Scorekeeper Chair, in writing, between now and January 2001. Be prepared
to volunteer in the Region for at least two seasons before being considered.
We need to see a continuous commitment to helping the program improve and
grow before sending candidates on to Nationals. Also, if you are a referee
looking to use this position as a stepping-stone to advancement as a referee,
bear in mind that “scorekeeper-only” candidates will be given first priority
when candidate selection time comes around. The reason is the Scorekeeper
Program
desperately needs the help that dedicated scorekeepers can provide
AFTER they come back to the Region as National Scorekeepers.
Regional Scorekeepers need to have participated
in at least two of the following areas for two seasons before being considered
for National Scorekeeper candidacy:
-
Assist with certification/testing process
-
Help with candidate registration at Fall clinics
-
Teach recertification clinics
-
Assist at new scorekeeper clinics
-
Assist the Fellowship Committee with scheduling candidates for ratings
-
Rate candidates at Fellowships
-
Serve on Scoresheet Review Committee
-
Volunteer to keep score at Regionals
In order to remain “in good standing,” National
Scorekeepers in the Chesapeake Region must assist the program by actively
participating in at least two of the following each year (strong emphasis
is placed on teaching the clinics, we REALLY need our most experienced
scorekeepers sharing their experience with our candidates and regional
upgrades):
-
Teach recertification clinics (mid-day weekend or evening sessions in October/November)
-
Teach new scorekeeper clinics (1/2 day sessions on weekends in October)
-
Assist with certification/testing process
-
Assist the Fellowship Committee with scheduling candidates for ratings
-
Rate candidates at Fellowships
-
Serve on Scoresheet Review Committee
-
Volunteer to keep score at Regionals
I ask each National Scorekeeper to contact me
by September 1, 2001 with information on how you will assist our Regional
program.
As you can see, there is plenty to do, whether
one is aspiring to be a National Scorekeeper or not! We need volunteers!
We need people to help lighten the workload on each of us. Please contact
me via email, fax, mail, or phone to lend a hand. And, thanks again to
those who have helped in the past.
Final Words
As always, IF YOU ARE MOVING THIS SUMMER,
OR IF YOU HAVE MOVED IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, please make sure you forward
your updated address to me ASAP and hopefully no later than September 1,
2001.
Thanks! |
