Referee Development Program
Ken Matz, RDP Coordinator

You might ask what has been happening with the RDP lately? Well, for starters, we are rounding out a successful Spring Clinic Series with three clinics conducted on R2 and R1 skills and techniques. Given the interest and success of the sessions, we will most likely schedule both a Fall and Spring Series for the upcoming 2001-2002 season.

This year, many RDP participants took advantage of one of our favorite offerings—to have themselves video-taped while officiating one or more matches during the season. After each taping session, participants received feedback and constructive comments concerning specific skill areas and/or techniques which might need further improvement if the participants are to seek advancement to higher levels of officiating or simply want to improve their overall officiating.

Applications have been accepted for Junior National Candidacy for the 2001-2002 USAV season. Nearly 10 people have applied, and we are extremely encouraged by the interest level. We hope the RDP continues to provide useful opportunities for improvement and advancement both in the Region and at all other levels.

Upcoming events during the Spring 2001 season include the RDP Kickoff Meeting for the 2001-2002 season which will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at Gorman Crossing Elementary School.

Let’s send an RDP GOOD LUCK to Eric Hoffman who will be travelling to Milwaukee in late May to be rated as a USAV National Certified Referee at the USAV National Open tournament.
