The 2001 CHRVA Championships were held between
March 31, 2001 and April 29, 2001. A total of 218 teams competed in 25
divisions on 49 courts over eight days. The Region’s best teams and players
in both the junior and adult divisions engaged in fierce competition and
had a great time doing it! When they had finished, the Region’s Champions
had been crowned. In addition, the adult divisions selected an All-Tournament
Team and Most Valuable Player for each tournament. These players were recognized
by their peers and the Region as the best of the best. Also recognized
were the Season Point Champions from each adult division. Congratulations
to them all!
This year, most of our competitions were held
at a brand new facility, the Discovery Sports Center (DSC), an impressive,
eight-court facility in Boyds, Maryland, near Germantown. Players, parents,
spectators, officials, and staff all seemed to be impressed by the facility
and its staff. One weekend’s competitions were held at the University of
Maryland’s Health and Human Performance Building (North Gym).
The CHRVA Championships are the centerpiece
of the Region’s program each year. They are a major undertaking. In addition
to the people who work throughout the season to run tournaments, many volunteers
donated their time and energies to make this year’s Championships a success.
