The Region is again sponsoring a USA Volleyball CAP
Level I and Level II course this summer at the University of Maryland.
CAP provides cutting edge information for coaching volleyball in a responsible
and structured manner. Areas covered include fundamental skill and
technique development, tactical systems and strategies, physical training,
motor learning, sports psychology, and sports administration. Both
classroom and gym sessions are used with active participation encouraged.
Participants are encouraged to dress for on-court activities and demonstrations.
CAP will not only benefit Juniors teams and clubs but also USAV teams at
all levels, county recreational level teams, high school teams, and collegiate
teams. The program is invaluable for teaching coaches how to coach
and teachers of the sport how to teach.
The critical distinction between CAP and other
coaching clinics is that CAP is a formal, structured program that has been
specifically designed by the best and most experienced coaches and teachers
of the game. It is a credential system, which helps assure parents
and athletes that a coach has studied the critical success factors of athlete
performance and the art of coaching. Rather than presenting a prescriptive
approach, the CAP Course presents the rationale, principle, and thinking
process for arriving at how to teach skills and technique. Why implement
certain tactics or strategies? Which statistics best reveal strengths
and weaknesses? By providing these fundamental principles, the CAP
Course gives the keys to coaches at all levels to successfully improve
their athletes, teams, and clubs.
The date to keep open on our busy calendars
is the weekend of August 2-4, 2002. The CAP II Course begins
on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The CAP I begins on Saturday at 8:00
a.m. Both courses conclude on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. We are
fortunate to have John Kessel, one of the best and most popular
of the CAP cadre, to be the lead clinician. A discount for CHRVA
members beyond the standard USAV member registration cost for the course
will be offered.
