The CHRVA General Membership meeting was held
May 3, 1998, at the Fairfax County Government Center with 28 people in
attendance. Board members elected for a 2-year term were: Joe
Cornett, Jerry Hulla, JoBeth Killough, Jeff Maynard, Dean Shumway, Kevin
Sippel, and Sue Wainio-Oato. For more details regarding the elections

Awards were presented to the following individuals:
Certificate of Appreciation: Roger Adams, Dave Reidenbach,
R.D. Randall, Nancy White, JoAnn Peters and Karol Shadle. Certificate
of Achievement: Jeff Maynard, Azam Smith, Guy WainioOato,
Charles Ezigbo, Jim Mason and Ken Matz. Meritorious Service
Award: Nancy White, Karol Shadle and Jeff Maynard.
Commissioner's Award: Arlene Geppi. Region
Leader in Volleyball Award: Debbie Reed and Larry Liden.
Highlights of the Meeting:
Sue Wainio-Oato, Scorekeeper Chair, thanked
all non-playing scorekeepers for their volunteer work at the Regionals.
Karol Shadle, Vice President, reported that
there were a total of 80 adult teams and 139 juniors teams that competed
in the Regional tournaments. Mrs. Shadle thanked numerous people
for their contribution to the success of the Regional tournaments.
Wanda Hsiung, Registrar, reported that CHRVA
is ranked as one of the top 5 in the nation for adult registration and
is ranked approximately 20th in the nation for juniors registration. Announced
CAP Clinic July 31- August 2.
Larry Liden, Referee Chair, reported that
all cards have been mailed for this season to certified referees.
AAVO plans to sponsor more Fellowship tournaments next season.
Dick Smith, Commissioner, reported that CHRVA's
website is being used as a model for other regions.
Sue Wainio-Oato, President, announced plans
to create a position to assist the Commissioner.
Pat Kendrick thanked CHRVA for dedicating
Regionals to Uvaldo Acosta. He suggested creating a position for
a Junior's Representative in the Region to be held by a Junior player.
Trish Marcario discussed improvements to All-Star
selection procedures, problems at Volleyball House when tournaments coincide
with Juniors tournaments, and, reimbursements to teams who attend Nationals.
Jerry Hulla requested assistance by Men's
A or AA teams for an exhibition competition with his disabled team.
Sue Wainio-Oato announced search for coaches
for the Seniors Women's Volleyball Club.
The next General Membership Meeting will be held
May 2, 1999.
