Award Presentations   Highlights of the Meeting
 
 
     The CHRVA General Membership meeting was held May 2, 1999, at the East County Community Center with 27 people in attendance. Board members elected for a 2-year term were:
  • Steve Burinsky,
  • Dixie Collins, 
  • Fran DuVall,
  • Charles Ezigbo, 
  • Shang Hsiung, 
  • Laurie Mulford,
  • Karol Shadle, and
  • Eugene Yee.

Highlights of the Meeting:
 
Larry Liden, Referee Chair, presented the following:  
    CHRVA has 15 National referees, 11 Junior National Referees, 72 Regional referees, 192 Provisional referees and 450 Youth Junior referees. A customer survey will be sent out during the summer for feedback. The Junior fellowships will be expanded for next season.  
Sue Wainio-Oato, Scorekeeper Chair, presented the following:  
    Kelli Auletta will be assisting Sue this upcoming season. Kevin Sippel is this year’s National Scorekeeper candidate. The new scoring system information will be presented at the next Board of Directors meeting after information is gathered at Nationals. Thanks to all scorekeeper volunteers for the Regional Championships.
Juniors:
    Jerry Hulla announced a coaching symposium to be conducted on May 8 -- designed for high school and club coaches. A detailed outline of tournaments conducted and participation was presented in writing by Arlene Geppi.
Eugene Yee, Eligibility Chair, presented the following: 
    Two members of the Region were suspended this season and the suspension was lifted March 7. Two members are currently under investigation. There were no teams that were moved involuntarily to a lower/higher division this season.
Ron Sommer, Tournament Scheduling Chair, presented the following:
    There were over 105 tournaments conducted this season. Two tournaments were canceled due to inclement weather and two were canceled due to lack of entries.
Jeff Maynard, Communications Chair, presented the following:
    The Handbook and the Digs are now online on the CHRVA website. March issue of Digs was e-mailed to some members and he is working on an electronic alternative (PDF format) that will save money on printing and postage. The new rule changes are on the website with opportunity to send comments. Tournament results are posted on the website as well as Regional Championship results and pictures. There have been close to 16,000 hits on the website since October and approximately 90 hits her day. 
Karol Shadle, Region Vice President, presented the following information on the Regional Championships: 
    There were 77 adult teams and 131 Juniors teams that competed in the championships.  T-shirt and polo shirt sales have gone well. Feedback regarding the Regional Championships should be directed to Karolvball@aol.com.
Sue Wainio-Oato announced that Anne Hughes has been appointed CHRVA Commissioner effective June 1, 1999. She gave a presentation of Dick Smith’s accomplishments and congratulated him on a job well done.
 
The next General Membership Meeting will be held May 7, 2000.  The site and time will be announced at a later date.
