Special Olympics Incorporated has released
the names of volleyball leadership and officials to staff its Summer World
Games volleyball competition, scheduled for Chapel Hill, NC from June 25th
through July 4th.
Former Commissioner and USA Volleyball Vice
President Joe Sharpless will be serving as the Technical Delegate for volleyball.
He also serves as SOI’s director of and advisor for volleyball world
wide.
Joining him as Head Referee is Nancy Sommer,
FIVB Arbitre and USA National Referee. Nancy has experience in two other
SOWSG’s in 1995 and 1991. Nancy is a former Referee chair for CHRVA.
Serving as a coordinator for scorekeepers
and support officials is CHRVA Commissioner Dick Smith. This will be Dick’s
first experience with the world games. Azam Smith has been invited as a
scorekeeper and support official. Azam volunteered at the 1995 SOWSG in
New Haven, CT. Both are in backup roles as referees if needed.
The SOWSG is conducted every four years in
the year preceding the Olympic Games, and is this year’s world’s largest
sporting event. More than 125 nations will participate in 20 sports over
the two week period.
We are proud of the contributions the Chesapeake
Region is making through these representatives, long time volleyball leaders
in USA Volleyball and CHRVA. |
