Padding Requirement for Net Supports and Referee

USAV Official Rules, Rule 2.6 state:

Rule 2.6.1 - “The antenna fastening apparatus must be smooth surfaced and
free of any sharp edges.”

Rule 2.6.2 - “By the year 2001, all wires that support posts from the floor
will be eliminated, or if that is not possible, then all exposed wires
must be padded with at least one-half inch thick, resilient shock-absorbing
material throughout the entire length. The padding must be clearly recognizable.”

Rule 2.6.3 & 2.6.4 Commentary – “By the year 2001, padding of the referee
platforms is required for all USAV volleyball sanctioned play.”

Larry Liden, Referee Chair, writes “The Chesapeake Region will be strictly
enforcing the playing rules (Rule 2.6 and commentaries regarding padding
of net supports, referee stands and supporting cables, if the cables cannot
be removed. All Head Referees will be instructed to inspect equipment and,
if the equipment does not meet the specific requirements found in Rule
2.6, then the competition will not occur. These rules have been adopted
by USAV for insurance reasons.”

Tournament hosts are hereby reminded of these news rules and are required
to comply. Those tournament hosts who feel they have a unique situation
or legitimate problem complying with the new rules are urged to contact
Larry Liden as soon as possible to resolve the issue.

I am confident that every tournament host will do their best to comply
with the new rules, the goal of which is to improve the safety of our players.
* The effective date of this Rule in the Chesapeake Region is September
1, 2000. The Region will be sending out a policy letter to all the tournament
sponsors from past seasons, clarifying the exact compliance date for these
Rules. This policy letter will also be posted on the CHRVA WebPages.
