As your new Communications
Chair, my job will be to ensure every member has easy, accurate, and timely
access to information, whether it be on the Website, in the Digs, or in
the Handbook, and whether it be in electronic form or hard copy. I am not
sure anyone could ever hope to replace the previous Chair and his tremendous
effort. Anyone who has ever met Jeff Maynard knows he has a wealth of experience
and expertise from which to draw on and a simply phenomenal (and unbelievably
tireless) work ethic.
I CAN promise you I will work hard with Jeff, the Editor and Designer
of the Digs, Theresa Curran, and others, to ensure CHRVA becomes, in every
respect, as OPEN, TRANSPARENT, CONSISTENT, and RESPONSIVE as possible to
all your volleyball needs.
I will always be looking for new ways to improve
communication between the Board, the Staff, and YOU, the people we have
been tasked to serve. We have already taken a step in the right direction
by soliciting comments from the membership through Jake Barkdoll’s recent
survey. Thanks so much for providing feedback and taking the time to respond.
But don’t stop there! Keep sending in suggestions whenever you have them.
The Board and Staff should not be operating in a vacuum. Feel free to come
up to me at any event to discuss communications issues or any other issues
you wish to discuss. You will find I am a “can-do” type of person, and
I do not like to let things sit! CHRVA is a dynamic organization that must
keep pace with everything volleyball related. If I cannot personally help
you, then I will put you in touch with someone who can.
My first short-term goal is to get a 2000 edition
of the Region’s Handbook printed and in your Team Representative’s hands
before the start of the season. A monumental task, to be sure, but
I am going to try. We must have an up-to-date formal reference describing
in detail all CHRVA policies, rules, and regulations that govern tournaments
and other programs in our Region.
My second short-term goal will be to improve
the ease with which you access information on the website. There
is a tremendous amount of information posted, and we need to explore ways
to more efficiently navigate such a huge site. If you have suggestions
regarding efficient navigation of the website, please do not hesitate to
submit them for my consideration.
Finally, I hope to shift some of the focus
in the Digs to such topics as:
-
Profiling not only CHRVA Board members, staff, and Tournament Coordinators,
but members-at-large who have done exciting things within and without the
Region;
-
Explaining to our membership how teams are chosen for tournaments; and,
-
Explaining the budget process so you are better informed about where your
money is going.
WHEW!
That’s just for starters!
Taking on the position of Communications Chair
will definitely be a challenge, but someone has got to tackle it! As we
strive to improve upon all methods of communication within the Region,
please always keep in mind that most of us are volunteers trying to juggle
CHRVA-related business with work and family. We could always use more volunteers!
I may even suggest to the Website Administrator and Digs Editor that we
set up some kind of “Volunteers” link or list. The more involved you become,
the more responsive the Region can be to meeting your needs. I am looking
forward to meeting you all and serving the Volleyball Community at large.
Let’s march on! |
