Rule to Benefit All Club Players
For countless past seasons, the CHRVA has extended a special playing privilege to adult AA and Junior Volleyball age group registered players who are members of a club. To wit, a player on an adult AA team was allowed to participate with any team of the same level (and gender) from his or her club any number of times until 15 March, when all rosters are finalized, as long as the player does not participate with more than one team during the same weekend. With respect to the adult divisions, this special privilege was granted due to the low registration numbers in Men’s and Women’s AA and to ensure that AA club teams had enough players to field a team in a tournament. Your CHRVA Board of Directors has now recognized that this rule could also benefit club team players in other adult divisions, divisions that are currently experiencing low registration numbers.

The Region Handbook has recently been revised to extend this privilege to other adult divisions based on need. The rule change states that based on the recommendation of the Adult Tournament Chair, movement of players laterally from team to team within a club other than the AA level will be allowed. Each season the Adult Tournament Chair will determine which adult divisions, if any, are eligible to apply this new rule. The decision will be made on November 1 each year, be posted on the CHRVA website, and announced by the Division Coordinator of the affected division(s).

Although the division(s) affected for the 2002-2003 Adult Regular Season will not be announced until November 1, indications are that clubs in the Men’s and Women’s B Divisions will be granted this privilege this season.

Your Board of Directors views this new rule as a positive step in increasing the number of players in divisions where registration is low. Club directors should look at this change as an opportunity to increase the number of teams and players within their club. And non-club teams can now look to adding more players and forming a club so all can play. If you have two or more teams that would like to form a club, or your team would like to become a member of an existing club in order to take advantage of this new rule, you can find information about forming a club on the CHRVA website, or you may contact the CHRVA Registrar at registrar@chrva.org for names of current club directors.
