A new season and a new CHRVA Handbook
for every Team Representative. Seems like yesterday when Wil Creech in
1992 wrote in his Commissioner’s letter that the Region was engaged in
revising the Region Bylaws and Handbook. Then in 1993, Wil wrote that a
revised edition was coming out by the end of the month; and, in 1996, the
new Commissioner Ed Anderson wrote that the single most important thing
to be done in 1996 was to publish a revised Region Handbook. It has been
a long time between editions, and we are happy to report that every Team
Representative will receive the new 2001-2002 Handbook this season. There
are not enough words to thank Jeff Maynard who spent countless hours, that
he actually could not spare, putting this Handbook together for the Region.
A thankless job and superbly done.
For those teams who are interested, the Pre-Tournament
Nationals booklet will be out by January 1. The Open Championships will
be held in Dallas, Texas from May 25 through June 1. Coed divisions will
be run back-to-back (regular coed the last two days of the first session
and reverse coed the first two days of the last session). The registration
deadline for the Open will be April 10, 2001. Do not forget that the registration
must be signed by the Commissioner, therefore registration information
must be collected first, sent to me to sign, and then sent to the National
Office. This is to ensure the Region is informed, and I can check for accuracy.
On the Juniors front, an Invitational will
be held this year to help teams that are second in line for the bid allocation
from their Region. Qualifying is still done through a Regional process,
and the tournament will be run just like JO’s. Forty–eight teams will be
in each division except for the 12 and 13 age groups. The Invitational
will be held May 27-30, allowing time to set up for the boys at the same
site.
Last but not least, I want to wish everyone
a successful season, and I will be seeing you on the courts.
