WORK TEAM ASSIGNMENTS

     Welcome to the 2001-2002 USAV season. As we get underway, I would like to point out the rules in the CHRVA Handbook regarding work team assignments. Please note the penalties that may be imposed for not fulfilling work team duties.

During Pool Play

     Teams are assigned work assignments for matches during pool play. The work team must provide the following per match assigned:

  1. 1st referee (if applicable)*;
  2. 2nd referee;
  3. Certified scorekeeper;
  4. Assistant scorekeeper (for libero purposes); and,
  5. Two competent line judges per match assigned.
     Penalties imposed by failing to perform any scheduled work team assignment are as follows:
  1. A team failing to perform any scheduled work team assignment due to an unintended oversight will be fined $25.00, and no suspension will be imposed.
  2. If a team refuses to perform any scheduled work team assignment, the team will be subject to disciplinary action. In this instance, depending upon the circumstances, the team may be subject to fines from $50.00 to $200.00 and/or 30-90 days suspension from Regular Season and Regional Championship competition. In addition, the team will forfeit all remaining matches scheduled during the tournament in favor of their match opponents and any playoff position they may have earned.
  3. *If a team’s designated referee fails to work as scheduled, the team will be subject to a $50.00 fee, payable to the Tournament Host, which must be paid before the team may compete again, either in the same tournament or subsequent tournaments, including the Regional Championships.
During Play-Offs

     Important: Teams MUST check with the Tournament Director BEFORE LEAVING FOR THE DAY to see whether they are required to work. Work teams for the play-offs will consist of the following:

  1. 2nd referee (depending on the play-off round);
  2. Certified scorekeeper;
  3. Assistant scorekeeper (for libero purposes); and,
  4. Two competent line judges.
     Work teams for play-offs are determined as follows:
1st Round of Play-Offs
• Teams with a bye will work the 1st round of play-offs.
• The loser of the last game of the last match of the day.
• The winner of the last game of the last match of the day if the loser is in the play-offs.
• Work team from last match of the day if both teams playing in the last match are in the play-offs.

Subsequent Rounds of Play-Offs
• The losing teams of each round just concluded.

Final Match of Play-Offs
The work team for the final match will be the semifinal loser with the least distance to travel, based upon the home address of the Team Representative.

     If a team fails to check with the Tournament Director and fails to work a required work team assignment, disciplinary action will be taken based on the following:
     NOTE: If the failure to perform a work team assignment is the result of a scheduling conflict or unforeseen change in the schedule, no disciplinary action will be taken.

Responsibility of the Tournament Director

     Any violation report (from a Tournament Host or Tournament Director) must be made within five (5) days of the date of the tournament, or it will not be considered or acted upon by the Region. Failure to timely report a violation may subject the host to disciplinary action.

     Any questions or reports may be directed to the attention of JoBeth Killough, CHRVA Eligibility Chair, at eligibility.chair@chrva.org.
