| All scorekeeper
candidates must attend a CHRVA Scorekeeping Clinic in December 2003/January
2004. The only exception is a scorekeeper who attended a clinic last
year (December 2002/January 2003) and completed the process by keeping
score at least twice. All clubs will have a list of their last year’s
certified players. Coaches teaching players who have not attended
a clinic are in violation of the above stated policy and are jeopardizing
their players and teams by running the risk of being sanctioned by the
Region. If players attended a clinic two years ago, (2001/2002),
they need to attend one again this year (2003/2004).
CAUTION: Do not take a player’s
word for what that player did last year—look at the list. If the
person played for a different club last season, please contact me.
I will look up the player’s certification status for you. I can be
reached at scorekeeper.chair@chrva,org.
NEW: There will be a new process
for becoming certified as a scorekeeper this season. Those who attend
a clinic this season need to complete the certification by doing the following:
They need to bring the evaluation forms they received at their clinic to
tournaments they will be scoring at. After each match they keep score,
scorekeepers will submit their scoresheets to a referee with a Provisional,
Regional, or National rating or to a scorekeeper with a Regional or National
rating to perform an evaluation. The evaluator will review the scoresheets
and give immediate feedback to the scorekeepers, then sign off on the scorekeeper
candidates’ evaluation sheet. Once scorekeepers have received two
evaluation signatures, they can mail their evaluation sheets along with
a self addressed stamped envelope to:
Dixie Collins
CHRVA Scorekeeper Chair
6321 Falling Brook Drive, Burke, VA 22015.
When I receive them, I will then send each scorekeeper
a USAV-CHRVA Scorekeeper Card.
If certified scorekeepers from last season
wish to keep score this season, they need to notify me to secure a scorekeeper
evaluation form to renew their certification. They would then follow
the same process as a scorekeeper candidate, eliminating the need to attend
a scorekeeper clinic this season.
COACHES: A suggestion for you
might be to keep all the evaluation sheets for your players so they do
not get lost. It might take a couple tournaments for candidates to
complete their evaluation sheets. Please send the sheets in, or have
the players send the sheets in, as soon as they are completed.
This new process is a continuing effort by
the Chesapeake Region to improve the officiating crews for all matches.
