Teams

How do I find a team, or, how does my team find a player?

There are three paths currently available if you are looking for a team, or, if your team needs players.

  1. If you are looking for a team, make contact with an area club and join one of their teams.  Adult clubs that have websites can be found here, or off of the main page under CHRVA Club Websites.  Junior clubs can be found using the Junior Club Search Facility.
  2. The CHRVA Website has a forum for individuals or teams to place their personnel search requests. Check out the CHRVA Personnel Search Forum, or, link to it from the main page under the link Help!!! "I Need a Team" or "My Team Needs a Player".  Follow the directions and email your personnel requests to the forum.  Your personnel ad will be placed on the page.
  3. If all else fails, contact the CHRVA Registrar at registrar@chrva.org who may be able to help.  Please use this path only if the first two options have failed.
  4. The best way to get on a team is to form your own.  See CHRVA Registration Information .

What are the differences between the various levels of play?

Many individuals are interested in joining the Chesapeake Region Volleyball Association (CHRVA) because it offers the opportunity to compete at much higher levels of play than local recreational or county leagues.  CHRVA supports competition at the B, BB, A, and AA levels.  There is a huge difference between the skills required to compete at the B level versus those required to compete at the AA level.  In addition, the entire range of levels (B through AA) varies greatly amongst the nation's Regional Volleyball Associations (RVA).   While there are no absolute criteria for determining which level is right for any particular person, potential members can get an idea of where they might fit in by reading the Guidance for New Players.

The next logical step is to take a look at some of the teams competing at the various levels.  The Tournament Schedules Page lists tournament dates, levels, and locations (with site directions).  Select a tournament at a convenient location and stop by to do some comparative shopping.

Fellowships

Where can I find information on Fellowship Tournaments?

Fellowships are practice tournaments held prior to the start of the Regular Season.  The time periods associated with the various phases of the CHRVA indoor season are specified in Section 4.2 of the CHRVA Handbook.  The Fellowship Season typically runs from the beginning of October through the end of November.  General information on hosting and participating in Fellowship Tournaments can be found throughout Section 4 of the CHRVA Handbook.

A schedule of Fellowship tournaments is maintained on the CHRVA Website.  The schedule link along with other important fellowship-related links can be found in the Pre-Season section. For additional information on important Pre-Season activities for current and past years, please look at the Pre-Season Links Archive.

The schedule page also specifies Fellowship location, the point of contact for entering the tournament, and directions to the site, if available.

What is the cost of participating in a Fellowship Tournament?

There are no playoffs associated with running a Fellowship Tournament.  This factor, along with others, results in the cost of a Fellowship Tournament being much less than that of a Regular Season Tournament. The Fellowship Tournament Cost for the current season is expected to be approximately:

$90 to $100

See the Fellowship Invitation links on the Fellowship Schedule page for the exact cost of specific fellowship tournaments.

How do I enter an Adult team in tournaments?

Once an Adult team is registered with the region, the team contact will be sent tournament invitations by the appropriate Division Coordinator.

It is the team contact's responsibility to return the invitation along with a check covering the entry fee (and any additional referee and scorekeeper fees that may apply) to their Division Coordinator.

The Division Coordinator keeps track of the teams within their division and maintains a 'next-to-play' prioritizing list to provide all teams with an equal opportunity to play.  If a team's priority allows them to play in a requested tournament, the team contact is sent confirmation of their entrance into that tournament.

What is the typical tournament entry fee expected to be for the current season?

According to the Tournament Chair (tournament.chair@chrva.org), teams should expect to pay somewhere around $170 per tournament.  In addition, you will have to add $50.00 if your team cannot provide a player-referee for the tournament and $20.00 per work match if your team cannot provide a scorekeeper.  The message here is "encourage your team members to become Scorekeepers and Referees".
