National Senior's Games

Seniors_medium

The National Senior Games were held this year at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.  Stanford has to be one of the most beautiful Universities in the world.  With 8200 contiguous acres, it is the second largest University in the world.  The grounds are so meticulously kept that it appears as though a gardener just left the spot where you are walking.

Many of the sports were readily visible from each other, allowing time to stop and see how the other athletes were doing.  Volleyball was in 3 buildings grouped by age, making it easy to visit their venue and check the progress of other teams from your area.

Sponsors of the games pulled the stops out to provide many useful services such as DNA screening, blood analysis to check cholesterol, triglycerides, corroded artery sonogram, knee clinic and many more.  In all, there were 14 lectures aimed at peaking the performance of athletes.

The volleyball tournament was conducted like the USAV National Open, namely double elimination  for medals after the seeding rounds.  This change came about after a Herculean effort by Jake Barkdoll of the MAC organization, to acquire 473 signatures on a petition to change the games format.

70           3              MAC 70                MD                         5-3

The MAC club was hoping for a 1-2 finish in the 70s bracket,  but the Colorado Highlanders had other ideas, knocking  MAC 70 out of the final Gold/Silver match in a 15-12 tie breaker.  The Highlanders must have wanted the Silver more than MAC 70.
